Mockernut

Carya tomentosa

Prefers rich, moist, sunny woodlands from Massachusetts to Florida, and west to Ontario, Nebraska, and Texas.

Difficult to transplant due to its deep taproot, so mainly propagated by seed (bury the nut about two inches deep).
